La OTAN se está convirtiendo en un obstáculo cada vez mayor para lograr la paz mundial. Ya no es una organización confinada al Atlántico Norte: es la mayor alianza militar del mundo, con aliados y socios en Asia, África y América Latina. Desde el fin de la Guerra Fría, la OTAN se ha reinventado como instrumento para la acción militar, la guerra psicológica, las intervenciones militares y políticas a nivel mundial y el acceso a recursos y mercados; a menudo alega llevar a cabo estas acciones en nombre de la «comunidad internacional». Con sus alianzas y operaciones conjuntas, es un vehículo para el objetivo estratégico estadounidense de dominio global; reforzada por bases militares en todos los continentes, elude a las Naciones Unidas y al sistema del derecho internacional, acelerando la militarización, incrementando el gasto en armamento y alimentando la carrera armamentista.

En junio de 2025, los 32 miembros de la OTAN acordaron aumentar su gasto militar al 5% del PIB, a pesar de que ya representan el 55% del gasto militar mundial. Estos aumentos están diseñados para financiar una división del trabajo: los miembros europeos de la OTAN se centran en Rusia, mientras que Estados Unidos se concentra en contener a China. Rechazamos esta peligrosa y contagiosa militarización de nuestras sociedades y relaciones internacionales. Solo generará mayor inestabilidad y tensiones, socavando la Carta de las Naciones Unidas y los sistemas jurídicos internacionales, y conduciendo a la marginación y el colapso social.

La expansión de la OTAN hacia el este ha generado crecientes tensiones y un conflicto bélico con Rusia. La expansión global de la esfera de influencia de la OTAN, su política de confrontación hacia Rusia y China, y sus operaciones fuera de su área de influencia ponen en peligro la paz mundial. Los intentos de Estados Unidos y la OTAN por cercar a China —incluida la militarización del Mar de China Meridional— han impulsado la vasta modernización militar de Pekín, y sus agresivas reivindicaciones sobre el 80-90% de ese mar crean nuevos y muy graves peligros.

Nunca antes habíamos estado tan cerca de una tercera guerra mundial como ahora.

El sistema jurídico internacional, tan débil y vulnerable, se ha visto gravemente amenazado por la agresiva política de poder de Estados Unidos y sus aliados, así como por la invasión rusa de Ucrania. Para lograr nuestra visión de un mundo pacífico, rechazamos las respuestas militares a las crisis globales y regionales. Abogamos por un sistema político internacional basado en la idea de la «seguridad común».

No nos alineamos con ninguna nación, nos negamos a vivir bajo el terror de las armas nucleares y rechazamos toda carrera armamentista y violación de los derechos humanos fundamentales. Debemos reducir el gasto militar y destinar los recursos a satisfacer las necesidades humanas y ambientales. Debemos cerrar todas las bases militares extranjeras. Nos oponemos a todas las estructuras militares, incluida la falsa agenda de Mujeres, Paz y Seguridad (MPS) de la OTAN, que promueve la intervención militar. Debemos democratizar y desmilitarizar las relaciones entre los pueblos y establecer nuevas formas de cooperación pacífica para construir un mundo más seguro, sostenible y justo. Debemos reinvertir en la construcción de confianza para abrir el camino a las relaciones y la cooperación internacionales pacíficas.

La disolución de la OTAN es un paso importante en la búsqueda de unas relaciones internacionales pacíficas. Mientras trabajamos para alcanzar este objetivo, debemos abordar importantes retos planetarios y comprometernos a:

• Luchar contra el calentamiento global;
• Lograr la prohibición mundial de las armas nucleares y otros acuerdos de desarme;
• Construir un orden económico y democrático internacional justo y erradicar la pobreza;
• Garantizar el respeto mundial de los derechos humanos.

Hacemos un llamamiento a todos los pueblos para que se unan a la lucha contra la OTAN global, para que construyan sobre nuestra visión de paz y para que resistan la peligrosa militarización de nuestras sociedades.

Manifesto: No to Global NATO – Yes to Common Security

NATO is an increasing obstacle to achieving world peace. It is no longer an organization confined to the North Atlantic: it is the world’s largest military alliance, with allies and partners in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Since the end of the Cold War, NATO has reinvented itself as a tool for military action, psychological warfare, worldwide military and political interventions, and accessing resources and markets; it often claims to undertake these actions on behalf of the “international community”. With its partnerships and joint operations, it is a vehicle for the US strategic goal of global dominance; reinforced by military bases on all continents, it bypasses the United Nations and the system of international law, accelerating militarization, escalating arms expenditures and fueling arms races.

In June 2025, the 32 NATO members agreed to increase their military spending to 5% of GDP, even though they already account for 55% of global military expenditure. These increases are designed to fund a division of labour: European NATO members focus on Russia, while the US concentrates on containing China. We reject this dangerous and contagious militarization of our societies and international relations. It will only result in more instability and greater tension, undermining the UN Charter and international legal systems, and leading to social deprivation and breakdown.

NATO’s eastward expansion has created growing tension and war with Russia. The global expansion of NATO’s sphere of influence, its confrontational policy towards Russia and China, and its “out of area” operations, endanger world peace. The attempts by the US and NATO to encircle China – including the militarization of the South China Sea – have spurred Beijing’s vast military modernization, and its aggressive claims to 80-90% of that Sea create new and very serious dangers.

We have never been closer to a third world war than now.

The international legal system – so weak and vulnerable – has been placed in profound jeopardy by the aggressive power politics of the US, its allies, and by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. To achieve our vision of a peaceful world, we reject military responses to global and regional crises. We are calling for an international political system based on the idea of “common security.”

We are aligned with no nation, refuse to live under the terror of nuclear weapons, and reject every arms race and violation of basic human rights. We must decrease military expenditure – directing resources instead to meeting human and environmental needs. We must close all foreign military bases. We oppose all military structures, including NATO’s fake Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda that promotes military intervention. We must democratize and demilitarize the relations between people and establish new forms of peaceful cooperation to build a more secure, sustainable and just world. We must reinvest in trust-building to open the way for peaceful international relations and cooperation.

The dissolution of NATO is an important step in the pursuit of peaceful international relations. While working toward this goal, we must address important planetary challenges and commit to:

• fighting against global warming
• achieving a worldwide ban on nuclear weapons and other disarmament agreements
• building a fair international economic and democratic order and eradicating poverty
• securing global respect for human rights.

We call on all peoples to join the fight against Global NATO, to build on our vision of peace, and to resist the dangerous militarization of our societies.
